Status Quo For
Weehawken

A Community-First Vision for Weehawken

For decades, Weehawken's leadership has prioritized political persistence over genuine progress, operating in shadows and leaving residents in the dark. Weehawken Rise is a movement dedicated to reclaim our local government from the status quo and introducing representative leadership that reflects who we are today.

Our Faulkner Act form of Government for the township  allows initiative and referendums to have a voice but never has one taken place.

This present system has our mayor worked a payed  full time job  in a neighing town as  administrator. This charter  form of government needs to be  reconsidered to  suit the needs of our future and consider paying a relevant  salary for a mayor for full time job for our community only.

Our vision centers on our education performance and  fighting for our fair share of funding for our school district. The current amount is  about $1400 per student when our neighboring town maybe less fortunate receives over $18000 per student. that's over 1200% difference.

We will call on the our elected  33rd legislative Senate vice chair of urban affairs and demand our voice be heard.

Improving are financial position with focus  the 2022  downgrade of our lower end of the spectrum credit rating of Baa3 this adds  financial debt pressures  considering  we  high tax town we need stop and ask ourselves how and what do we need to do now.  One  priority is  stop issuing bonds and borrowing against  our  cash flow to meet operational needs.

For years are property taxes require to pay upfront  on the fiscal year  because the different with the county fiscal year  why can't adjust to solve uneven quarterly  tax bills  this  can effect affecting residents on fixed incomes and retirees.

The present North Hudson Regional Fire Department a well run operation  has unfair funding formula  since its inception , recently after the towns of North Bergen and Guttenberg had enough.

By promoting positive  changes and fostering a culture of accountability, we ensure that the Mayor’s office  and council works for every resident—building a vibrant town where diversity is celebrated and shared purpose thrives.
